This is the headstone for my 3rd great grandfather and grandmother on my Mom's side of the family tree.  They are buried together at North Bedeque United Cemetery in Summerside, Prince Edward Island, Canada.  They immigrated from Scotland to Prince Edward Island about 1821.

I hope someday to get a much better picture of their headstone as I have cousins that still on the island.

Tombstone Tuesday - Robert Sporie

This is the tombstone for my great grandfather.  Robert is the father of my maternal grandfather.  He was born 20 May 1869 in Bern, Switzerland.  Depending on the census, he immigrated to the United States in 1883 or 1886 (I haven't been able to find his immigration papers).  He became a naturalized citizen about 1900.

The first census he shows up on is the 1900 U.S. Federal Census.  He's living in Rome, Oneida County, New York, and is 31 years old.  By the 1910 U.S. Federal Census, he's living in Durham, Androscroggin County, Maine, where he will reside for the rest of his life.

Robert died 31 Jan 1926 in Durham, Androscroggin County, Maine at the age of 56.  He's buried at Friend's Cemetery.

Tombstone Tuesday - Frank W. Raitz

Today is Tombstone Tuesday, one of the many blogging prompts over at Geneabloggers.  Today, I'm sharing the tombstone of my paternal 2x great grandfather.  He is the father of my great grandmother, Edith Irene (Raitz) Lusby.

All I know about Frank is that he was born about 1859 in Germany and died on 14 Feb 1930 in Washington, DC.  He's buried, with his wife, Frances May (Thompson) Raitz at Congressional Cemetery.  He immigrated to the United states about 1863 at the age of 4 (I haven't been able to find him on a passenger list yet and I don't know who his parents are).  The first census I've been able to find him on is the 1900 census.  If he did arrive in the 1860's, I should be able to find him on the 1870 and 1880 census.  I also have no clue as to what port they arrived at.

Daniel Tanton is the youngest son of William Tanton and Elizabeth Pearse.  He was born 16 July 1779 in Bideford, Devon, England and died 29 Jan 1797 in St. Giles in the Wood, Devon, England. He had 6 brothers and 1 sister.

Daniel's brother, George Tanton, is my 4th great grandfather, which makes Daniel my 4th great grand uncle.  I'm related to the Tanton's on my mother's side.  George eventually emigrated to Prince Edward Island, Canada in 1819.
